Rolex Awards for Enterprise

Rolex Awards seek applicants through partnership with IUCN Red List of Threatened Species™

IUCN has a long history of indirect engagement with Rolex through the Rolex Awards for Enterprise. Since their initiation in 1976, the Rolex Awards for Enterprise have supported more than 30 environmental projects impacting over 60 species of rare and endangered plants and animals. Indeed, Rolex Laureates and Associate Laureates have on many occasions been supported and guided in their work by IUCN and have in some cases led and been members of SSC Specialist Groups.

In recent weeks, IUCN has teamed up with Rolex in a first-of-its-kind partnership. With funds made available through the Rolex Awards for Enterprise, Rolex is supporting an upgrade of the Red List website, improving accessibility of the site in the coming year and bringing the information available on the IUCN Red List to the attention of the broader public. The first indication of this agreement is the advertisement for the Rolex Awards that is now prominently displayed on all species pages of the Red List website and visible above.

The Rolex Awards for Enterprise recognize pioneers whose work contributes broadly to the betterment of humankind; and Rolex provides selected individuals with US$100,000 towards their projects, a Rolex chronometer, and the benefits of international publicity. Rolex has launched its latest edition of the enterprise awards with a worldwide call for entries. Prospective entrants can apply to the 2012 Rolex Awards through the advertisement above. The deadline for pre-applications is 31 May 2011.
